Kate Bornstein is a transgender Author, playwright, performance artist and gender theorist. Born Albert Bornstein on March 15, 1948, she underwent sex reassignment surgery in 1986.

Bornstein is currently (2006) writing an autobiography[1] and resides with her partner, Barbara Carrellas, in New York City.[2] Bornstein was raised a Modern Orthodox Jew. She still considers herself Jewish but does not practice any form of Judaism.
