Two men marrying in Amsterdam within the first month that marriage was opened to same-sex couples in the Netherlands (2001).

This article provides a list of current and historical notable lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) couples. Modern LGBT couples use many terms to describe their relationship as "marriage" for LGBT people is legal only in a minority of countries and terms such "gender-neutral marriage," "equal marriage," "civil union", "same-gender marriage" and others do not fully address the complexities of their relationship or the changing legal aspects that are presently occurring.

Same-sex marriage is a term for a governmentally, socially, or religiously recognized marriage in which two people of the same sex live together as a family.[1] Proponents of same-sex marriage often use the term "equal marriage" to stress that they seek equality as opposed to special rights;[2] the term "equal marriage" has also been used by feminists to describe any marriage, regardless of the sex of the partners, in which the partners have equal status within the marriage.[3] Opponents argue that equating same-sex and opposite-sex marriage changes the meaning of marriage and its traditions.[4]
